Where can 150+ people meet, have a great time, and share their love of cars? The Florida Citrus Region, Porsche Club of America Zone 12 celebrated their 45th Anniversary last weekend. Beautiful cars and amazing people met at the Historic Lakeside Inn of Mount Dora for a few days of fun, friendship and fabulous stories.
The vintage to latest models of cars were on display before the grounds of the magnificently restored Howey Mansion in Howie in the Hills on May 25th. Attendees strolled among both dozens of Porsches and through the historic mansion and grounds. Lunch was provided in the living room of the mansion and home to nearly hundred year old fireplaces, beautiful curved walls, arching windows, period furnishing and a secret room.
Club attendees then drove a “Back Roads Tour” through winding country roads before returning to the Lakeside Inn and a keg of beer awaiting them on the front porch. Nearby rocking chairs provided the ideal place for friendly conversation and a view of the sun setting upon the lake.
The Autocross event at the Lake County Sheriff’s Facility in Tavares occurred the next day. One at a time, participants challenged their best time driving around a course marked by traffic cones. The end of the day was marked with a banquet, awards, smiles, plans to attend the next event – and thanks for all those who made the experience possible.
