I am not a roller coaster junky seeking a vertigo inducing escape to disorientation every weekend. But – there is one roller coaster experience I will confess is becoming an addiction.
There is simply nothing quite like starting from a full stop to nearly 60 mph in less than three seconds. Instantaneously, you realize this is no ordinary roller coaster. While pulling 5 Gs, and being launched into a high speed dizzying array of turns and loops, it feels as if your attempts to scream are literally being stuffed back down your throat and clear through to your toes. About this same time, the thought occurs to you, but only very briefly, that perhaps grandmothers should not be doing such things.
From a comfortable and very secure seat within a stretch limo on the way to an Aerosmith concert, this smooth, albeit quite beyond “peppy” ride makes its way through nighttime Hollywood “traffic” via a corkscrew and two full loops. As if that is not enough, 120 onboard speakers are blasting high energy Aerosmith tunes to add to the appeal as you finally regain your breath enough to permit a very satisfying scream through an ear-to-ear grin.
Rock’n’Roller Coaster opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida in 1999. This indoor coaster ride is nothing short of exhilarating and not missing any trademark Disney attention to detail throughout the experience. It comes highly recommended for anyone seeking an amazing two minutes guaranteed to take your mind off of anything and everything else – and has become one of my most favorite things to do.
And this grandmother can proudly let loose very some significant and liberating screams!
