Your sense of humor may just be the most powerful asset available to you to add real zest to your life. Study after study has shown that smiling and laughter have an enormous positive impact on our lives.

So let’s take a look at what ways humor may affect our lives:

It can make you a healthier person by:

  • Reducing pain – triggering endorphins
  • Relaxing and toning muscles (including facial)
  • Reducing the effects of stress
  • Stimulating digestion and circulation (some think of as an internal organ massage)
  • Reducing blood pressure
  • Building up facial and throat muscles – reducing snoring
  • Cleansing the lungs – like deep breathing, sending more enriched oxygen to the body
  • Burning calories
  • Helping us live longer
  • Resting the brain
  • Keeping us from getting robbed

Okay, I admit, I threw in the last one just to see if you were paying attention. But I did read this somewhere and it makes sense. Maybe there is some truth that robbers will shy away from someone who is smiling. I hope you never get to experiment with this but, if you do, let me know if it works. If someone tries to rob you, flash them a big smile.

It can strengthen you mentally and emotionally by:

  • Helping to dissolve anger and unite peoplelaughing
  • Helping us deal with loss and grief
  • Helping us cope with change
  • Helping us remember things
  • Stabilizing mood swings
  • Increasing your attention span

 It makes you a more interesting person by:

  • Helping to strengthen your relationships
  • Making you more attractive
  • Helping us communicate with people from other environments
  • Improving your morale
  • Enhancing romance
  • Stabilizing mood swings
  • Improving your outlook on life

So, start smiling, laughing. and sharing humor with all your significant others. You’ll be surprised at the results!
