They came.  Parents, kids, strollers, sideline cheerleaders, friends,  grandparents, in-laws, great grandparents, babies, families, students, and even a dog named Wilson.

And they walked, jogged, ran, cheered, and had a fabulous time for a great cause!

img_1823Sponsored by the Four Townes YMCA, Halifax Health, and Runner’s High, The Deltona Honor & Remember 5K event was held at Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex on November 13th. One hundred and thirty one participants honored Veterans and First Responders with a morning run through the beautiful grounds.  They represented three generations as babies pushed in strollers to those over 70 made the five kilometer trek (3.1 miles).

Runners were categorized by age increments to win first, second and img_1926third place plaques and individual medals for each participant.  While many participants were from the Central Florida area, others came from as far away as Canada.  Other attendees included Team RWB  (Team Red , White & Blue) an active support group for Veterans and Deltona High School HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) students.

In the spirit of honoring Veterans, Joyce Beasley (a third place winner), placed her medal on a very special guest to the event.  Ernest Beasley, 93 was in attendance with his wife of 72 years, Marvena. Ernest served in WWII and is the Father-in-law of Joyce. Ernest, Joyce and Richard Beasley are in the photo above  with Daniel Strickler.
